People with schizophrenia see hallucinations and believe in them too much. They can get very angry when no one believes them.

Their treatment is very difficult and they have to be treated for the rest of their lives. However, if the treatment is started early, this situation can be taken under control because it does not progress very much. And it can lead to improvement in the quality of life. It is not yet known why schizophrenia occurs.

Mental health professionals can’t say for sure what causes it either. However, genetic structure, environment and especially brain chemistry play important roles in the emergence of this situation.

Studies have shown that schizophrenia patients have different brain structures compared to normal people. Although they cannot say exactly what it contains, researchers have concluded that schizophrenia is a brain disease.

Schizophrenia Symptoms

As with almost all diseases, different things are observed in each individual in this disease. But most of them have some symptoms that occur. Hallucinations are at the top of these, and nonsense and empty talk. Dysfunction is also seen in almost every patient.

We also see the presence of delusions in these individuals. delusions; can be defined as things that have no grain of truth. For example; The individual can say that he or she has been battered by a person.

This is a delusion. Of course, if there is no reality, it is a delusion. They can say that a great disaster will befall the whole humanity, they can claim that they are invisible, they can say that they have a friend that no one can see, they can say that they are in love with any individual even if they have no feelings.

These are the most common delusions. Let’s look at hallucinations. Here, too, the individual can see, hear and feel things that do not exist. It can detect them with five senses. But we see that it usually occurs through hearing. Most individuals hear sounds that are not actually there. Disorganized thinking can also be encountered.

In very few cases, the situation where what is spoken is not understood at all or what is said has no meaning. We also come across the childish acts of some individuals. The bottom line is to draw attention. Symptoms can generally vary for everyone.

When we look at the average of the cases, we see that while it is very rare under the age of 20 and above the age of 45, it is very common in women in their late 20s and in men in their early 20s.

Drug use can also cause the development of schizophrenia symptoms. When we look at adult and young patients, it has been seen that young people are more likely to have hallucinations.

How Are Schizophrenic Diseases Treated?

Schizophrenia is a disease that always requires treatment for the rest of their lives, even if their symptoms diminish. In some cases, medication may also be used. Sometimes the disease has progressed so much that the individual is hospitalized because he does not even fulfill his basic needs.

This is very important in terms of good hygiene and safety of the individual. In some individuals, the body does not respond to drug therapy, and in such cases, electroconvulsive therapy is considered as a last resort. As in most diseases, the family has a great responsibility here.

To talk about home care, other normal people living at home should be very careful with schizophrenic patients. They should definitely stay away from alcohol and drug use. They should also stay away from nicotine-containing drinks because they are both more affected and may react adversely with the drugs they use.

Other members of the family should show great compassion to the schizophrenic patient. They must show understanding. Even this situation makes people with Schizophrenia become more positive and makes them feel better.
